Darwin Olympics: Guy Fakes Kidnapping After His Own Scam Costs Him Money

Meanwhile in New York . . .

This dude who is old enough to know better, named Robert Brandel (60) set up a fake “Super Bowl Squares” game in an effort to scam people out of money.

It’s actually a real game people get in on, where you write your name in squares on a grid with numbers on the top and side, and the square that matches up with the score at the end of each quarter wins some money. The buy-in is usually $10 or $20, but Robert made this one high-stakes by initiating a $500 buy-in.

Well, Robert created some fake names to up the chances that he would actually win the money, but it totally didn’t work out that way. Real people ended up winning the money and Robert was on the hook for $50,000!!

Just last week, Robert tried a last ditch effort to avoid paying the people he was trying to scam and faked his own KIDNAPPING!!

Someone found Robert in his truck with his hands and legs tied up, and dude totally tried to claim that two guys with guns stole all the money . . . but police easily and quickly figured out that the whole situation had been staged.

It’s not quite clear if anyone will get their $500 buy-in back, but Robert is definitely facing fraud charges.
