How many adult beverages before someone gets hurt?
Glad you asked . . . because someone found the answer: A recent study found the average drunken injury happens after about 8 drinks for guys, and 6 drinks for women.
The study also looked at the most common injuries while drunk, the #1 reason why people get into fights, and, this St. Patrick’s Day, we don’t want you to be one of them.
Here’s what the survey found:
1. When it comes to the type of adult beverage and injuries, for most men it’s too much beer . . . women, it’s vodka.
2. The most common drunken injuries are your typical bruises, and cuts . . . but then there’s the next level broken bones and sprains. 88% of people in the survey who have broken a bone while intoxicated admitted that it wouldn’t have happened if they were sober.
3. As for where drunken injuries tend to happen most, that would be a house party . . . or at home . . . or on the road (btw, drinking and driving is BAD!) . . . at a bar or restaurant . . . and yep, a lot of times while walking/stumbling down the sidewalk.
4. Even though St. Paddy’s Day is the annual green beer holiday, the most common occasions for drunken injuries are birthday parties, New Year’s Eve celebrations (not a good way to kick off a new year), college parties or work celebrations.
5. The most common age for a drinking related injury is 22, then it spikes again at 25, and again at 35.
6. According to the survey, 23% of us have started a drunken fight before. Why? The number one answer was, “I don’t remember.”
Stay safe and remember, getting an Uber/Lyft/Cab/Limo is ALWAYS cheaper than a DUI. Please, please, please do NOT drink and drive.
