Who Is Your Favorite Food Mascot?

There are plenty of food mascots to choose from, so it’s hard to just say one is your favorite.  But for me, hands down, my favorite food mascot is Tony the Tiger.

Tony has been gracing the boxes of Frosted Flakes since 1952.  But we almost didn’t get Tony the Tiger, there were three other ideas for a mascot.  Frosted Flakes were almost represented by Katy the Kangaroo, Elmo the Elephant or Next the Gnu.  Katy and Elmo aren’t bad names but Newt the Gnu sounds horrible, I am glad Tony beat them out.

Did you know Tony was given a son at first, Tony Jr.  In the 70s, Tony was actually given a family, Mama Tony, Mrs. Tony, and a daughter, Antoinette

Tony the Tiger is one of the most recognizable food mascots. I don’t know what it is about Tony that I like so much, maybe because this was the only cereal I ever remember being in our house as a kid. It is true what he says about Frosted Flakes, They’re GGGGGGREAT!!!

Here is a Tony the Tiger commercial from the 50s.
