What is surprising about class reunions?

Well, I’m working on getting to my next class reunion.  I’m always excited to see my high school friends since we are all scattered all over the country and don’t get to see them a lot.

Also, the movies portray high school reunions are a chance for people to get revenge or show off their new and improved selves. But in reality? They can be much less exciting. Some people can’t wait to go to theirs and serve on planning committees for the event, while others swear, they’ll never ever show up at one.

A popular Reddit thread asks people who went to their high school reunion to share what surprised them the most and they didn’t hold back:

“My 10 year reunion was held at a bar. It was all the same people at the bar as it was every weekend, but this time they were wearing nicer clothes.”

“The biggest surprise anytime I catch up with people I grew up with is finding out their career. Most of us have pretty unremarkable jobs but some that stood out:

1. the guy who got arrested for underaged drinking 3 times is now a cop.

2. the girl who couldn’t form a coherent sentence is now a teacher.

3. The nerdy D&D kid now owns and operates an outdoor shooting range and is one of the largest ammunition suppliers in the area.”

“The only high school reunion I attended was my 50th. I was surprised that people remembered things I’d done with amazing detail specificity.”

“That I couldn’t remember anyone. Everyone remembered me because I was the freak in high school, and people kept coming up to me and being like “It’s so great to see you.” And I kept having to run to the wall where they’d plastered blown-up yearbook photos to figure out who anybody was.”

Did you go to your high school reunion?

What was the biggest surprise of the event?

Are you someone who’s changed a lot since high school?
