TV’s Latest: What’s Been Renewed, Cancelled, and What’s New

From the desk of the self-proclaimed “TV CONNOISSEUR” Jai . . .

When it comes to TV shows, give me scripted or give me nothing!

Don’t get me wrong, I totally get why people love reality shows, celeb-reality shows, and other type of contest/talent shows . . . I’m not knocking them, they just aren’t for me.

I’m pretty sure I’m the only one of my lady-friends who doesn’t watch any of The Bachelor / Bachelorette / Bachelor In Paradise / any any other spin-offs I don’t even know about, and I can’t tell you how many times I get asked about American Idol, The Voice, America’s Got Talent, and The Masked Singer . . . only to acknowledge “I know what you’re talking about, but I don’t watch the show.”

My husband LOVES all the cooking shows, restaurant rescue type shows, home improvement shows, and what not . . . but the only one I’ll actually stay in the room for if he’s watching is “Miz & Mrs.,” which is entertaining enough, but again, still not quite my preference.

I like sitcoms. I like dramas (well, some of them).

I. Like. Scripted!

If you’re anything like me and LIVE FOR SCRIPTED TELEVISION, then maybe you’ll geek out over this list like I did.

Below is a list of what we can look forward to being renewed, what’s new that will be hitting out screens, and what is straight up dunzo and off to cancellation-land.

Some good news if there are any new shows you’re worried about getting the boot before ever having a chance (yes, I’m still upset about “Happy Together” not even getting a chance, and don’t get me started on “Superior Donuts”) . . . it’s looking like networks are actually showing some patience with the rookie shows.

As of right now, here’s the list of what to expect for the 2020-21 season:

For the past 14 weeks and counting, the top Billboard spot has been held by a love ballad: Alex Warren's "Ordinary." As Berklee College of Music professor and forensic musicologist Joe Bennett notes, the February release is "a fair bit slower than the mean average for the Hot 100, or for a historical song of the summer."
