We all know how haunted our beloved Bell Witch Cave really is, and it’s nice to see the rest of the nation taking notice, too.
Tennessee is overflowing with history, including the supernatural kind. Bell Witch Cave, located in Adams, TN was where John Bell first settled with his family in 1817.
However, not long after arriving, some spooky things started happening – objects being thrown by an invisible force and hearing someone yelling and cursing at the family. The haunting was attributed to Kate, a witch believed to live in a cave on the Bell family’s property, who particularly took to torturing John’s youngest daughter, Betsy Bell. She’d feel pinches and poking, and was even thrown from her bed on multiple occasions. When Betsy became engaged to another local resident, things only became worse for her.
Naturally, modern day researchers find it hard to verify a presence of a witch, but the fear during that time was so. very. real! Even (president-to-be) Andrew Jackson was all like ‘HECK NO’ about staying on the farm after investigating the presence of the witch himself.
Whether or not you’re a believer in the supernatural, you can visit the farm for yourself. Maybe even go in the cave where Kate the witch lived (or still lives…), [insert creepy voice] if you dare. Muhahahahaha
