This Just In: It is NOT Safe to Roast Marshmallows Over a Volcano

Whomever said, “there’s no such thing as a stupid question,” spoke way too soon.

The other day, the U.S Geological Survey received a question on their Twitter account from a user, that may be proof of Darwinism still at work.

Obviously sarcasm doesn’t translate over written/typed words, but we’re going to assume Jay was joking. Hopefully…

Just in case it’s not a joke, or for anyone else, genuinely, wondering the same thing, the USGS tweeted their response.

Not only does the idea of cooking over scorching molten rocks seem extremely unsafe, the USGS said that the marshmallows wouldn’t even taste good if the vents were emitting hydrogen sulfide or sulfur dioxide. The agency also noted that if you add sulfuric acid to sugar, “you get a pretty spectacular reaction.”
