Tennessee School District Will Fine Students Using Phones In Class

Roberston County in Tennessee is having a problem with students using their phones during class, so they are going to start charging them $10 for each offense, according to Fox 17.

How it works is like this, the first time you get caught it’s a $10 fine, second time you get caught it’s a $20 fine, so on and so forth.  The catch is, if the students don’t pay their fines by the time they are going to graduate, the district will keep their diploma.

The biggest complaint amongst parents is, this is too much of a burden financially to make kids pay this. The district did an online poll, 47.9% of parents agree with this rule and 52.1% of parents disagree.

My opinion is this, do students in the older grades like 7th to 12th grade need a cell phone, yes.  But they don’t need it during the class.  I am all for them having it at school in case of an emergency but during class you are to learn, not be on your phone.  For the parents worried about not being able to pay the fines, just make sure your kid doesn’t use the phone in class, simple fix.

Do you like this rule?  If not, how could it be fixed?
