May 31st, 2022, Taco John’s opened back up in Clarksville. Back in the 90s there were 2 Taco John’s in town, according to Clarksville Now. But eventually they closed and Clarksville was without a Taco John’s for quite some time.
They opened up at 10am today, so Mandi and I decided to stop by and get some Potato Oles. They were running a promotion this morning for the first 100 guests, they would receive Oles once a week for free for a year. Mandi and I were fortunate enough to get the ‘Golden Ticket.’
Here’s a little history lesson about Taco John’s. Taco John’s wasn’t always called Taco John’s, it was first called Taco House and it was just trailer. John Turner, the founder of Taco John’s served in the United States Air Force and was stationed at FE Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming. His trailer was converted to a taco stand and became an instant hit.
When John Turner sold the franchise rights to James Woodson and Harold W. Holmes, that’s when Taco House became Taco John’s. The two men changed the name to honor the man that started it all.
Fun Fact: In 1989, Taco John’s trademarked the phrase “Taco Tuesday.”
Evidently, in 2016, Taco John’s announced it will be bringing 40 restaurants to New York and Tennessee. It sounds like we may see more Taco John’s pop up in Clarksville in the near future.
Here is an old commercial from the 80’s…
