Sugarland’s ‘Babe’ Music Video Looks Familiar…

“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” – Charles Caleb Colton

Well, just ask Miranda Lambert if she’s flattered…

Everyone’s been talking about how Taylor Swift conceptualized the music video for Sugarland’s song “Babe” (a song co-written by Swift). The video was directed by Anthony Mandler, and features Jennifer Nettles as the scorned wife whose husband, played by TV’s Bradon Routh, is having an affair with his secretary, played by Swift.  Kristian Bush plays various roles throughout the video.

If your first thought upon seeing the video was, “hey, this looks familiar,” it’s because it kind of is.

The house you see in the music video for “Babe” is the same one used for Miranda Lambert’s “Mama’s Broken Heart” music video, directed by Trey Fanjoy. Using the same location for video (or even photo) shoots is actually quite common, but that’s not where the similarities end. Both have fashion theme straight out of an episode of Mad Men, both female leads are seen eating along in the dining room, and they both had that moment where they’re “exhausted” while alone in bed.

Take a look at both music videos and judge for yourself, or don’t. Whatever, you do you.
