According to a new study, scientists say YES, and believe you should be paid for that time.
The theory is that it’s part of your job to get to work and head home, plus if you respond to a work email or take a call from your boss during your commute, that’s working and you should be compensated. (Ummm, we feel like if you are driving to work, you better NOT be reading/answering emails.)
Believe it or not, the study did find some people who said there shouldn’t be pay for commuting to and from work. Those people say they like using their commute to mentally switch from home life to work life and don’t want their boss expecting them to get stuff done during their travel.
