Sacrifice Is A Privilege

Why am I awake at 1:06AM?  It’s because we have a 2 1/2 year old who doesn’t sleep, much.  I mean she has her nights but she will go for days where she wakes up at the drop of a hat.  I think our neighbors a 1/2 mile down the road flush the toilet and she hears it.  Her brain is constantly going.  And she’s such a sponge, wanting to know everything.  Then if she’s really interested in something, just asking a question is not good enough, she will say “talk about it”.  And you will have a full blown conversation on whatever topic, and it may last 5 minutes or 30.  At night she loves to read but then she wants to talk about what we just read and it’s in those moments I really get to see inside her head.  Her thoughts.  Ya know?  I mean when she is sharing with you what you just read and her take-away, it really is a honor to sit and listen as long as she wants to talk about it.  So with her brain constantly in “go” mode and just the energy of youth, neither my wife nor I get to see much in the way of quiet times.  And having a date night, what’s that?  Enjoying a rainy or foggy cold day curled up on the couch or just piddling around outside, nah, we haven’t done that in a long time either.  And my wife, she has sacrificed everything to be a stay at home mommy, which is a job where you never get a break.  But every day, we look at each other and talk about Gods blessing on our family, and how these days will be gone so we better soak them all up.  Yeah, it’s a sacrifice, but it’s a privilege.
