This is astounding!
Sure, there are always random studies, with odd results . . . but somehow the results of this one simultaneously makes sense and are also dumbfounding.
A study monitored people as they drove with two different types of precious cargo in tow.
Their kid . . . then a CAKE!
Researchers wanted to see how carefully drivers were based one who . . . or what . . . was in the vehicle.
95% of people drove more cautiously when they were driving with . . . THE CAKE!
Legit!
While driving with the cake, 65% drove slower . . . 60% were more gentle with their braking . . . 50% took turns at a slower pace . . . and 45% used their phone less.
Apparently, the theory behind it is that parents are used to driving with their kids, while driving with a cake snaps us out of “autopilot” mode and we pay more attention to what we’re doing and how we’re doing it.
Ummm . . . couldn’t some of it also have to do with the fact that your kid is securely buckled in and hitting the breaks a little too hard, or taking a turn without slowing to a snail’s pace, won’t really affect them the way an unsecured cake with easy fly-off-the-seat potential would?
Just a thought . . .
