New Parents Need Three and a Half Month to Feel Like They Know What They’re Doing

There’s a new study out that says it take about 103 days (that’s about 3 months) to start feeling normal again and in a solid routine.

Any parent, new or pro, can attest that parenting skills don’t come naturally. It’s not like you bring your newborn home and immediately are anointed with all the parenting knowledge.

The researchers of the study found new parents were feeling more like they had the hang of the whole parenting thing

Some of the signs that made parents in the study feel like they’ve got things on lock are:

  1. Finding the new normal in a good routine.
  2. Hearing your baby cry and identifying which cry it is and what it means your baby needs/wants.
  3. The ability to get that diaper changed quickly.
  4. Heading out the door with baby in tow and not forgetting any of the necessary to-go items at home.
  5. Finding that you’re not as easily frustrated or panicky when baby starts crying.
