Morgan Wallen Dropped From ‘SNL’

One of our Beaver Country favorites, Morgan Wallen, has found himself in hot water with “Saturday Night Live” execs after videos of the “Whiskey Glasses” singer popped up online showing the singer not practicing social distancing protocol.

Wallen was caught wilin’ out in Tuscaloosa for the Alabama vs Texas A&M football game where video clips showed him maskless (well, his gator mask was around his neck) with college kids, doing not-socially distanced shots and sharing a bottle of whiskey with total strangers . . . oh, and making out with randoms. SNL has been practicing mandatory protocols since bringing the show back to Studio 8H at 20 Rockefeller Plaza, so they had “no choice” but to cancel the country artist’s appearance as musical guest.

In the country world, we all know Wallen and his music . . . but, this appearance could have shot him to even bigger stardom with so many more people being introduced to him and his music.

For real, though . . . do you have any idea how difficult it is for artists to score the Musical Guest slot on SNL?  There’s only one musical guest per episode, one episode per week, less than two dozen episodes a season, and they pull from ALL genres of music.

To cut to the point . . . this was a big deal for Morgan to be tapped to perform on the skit variety show. He not only let down himself and those around him (band, label, etc), but also the fans who have been routing for him.

Morgan has verbally owned up to his actions, stating, “I’m not positive for COVID but my actions this past weekend were short-sighted.  I respect the show’s decision because I put them in jeopardy.  I apologize to ‘SNL’, my fans, and my team for bringing me these opportunities, and I Iet them down.”

He continues, “On a personal note, I have some growing up to do.  I think I’ve lost myself a little bit.  I’ve tried to find joy in the wrong places, but it’s left me with less joy.  I’m gonna take a step back from the spotlight for a little while and go work on myself . . . [It] may be a second before you hear from me for a while, but I’m gonna go work on me, and I appreciate y’all respecting that, and I’ll talk to you soon.”

Back in May, Morgan was arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct outside of Kid Rock’s Big A** Honky Tonk & Rock ‘N’ Roll Steakhouse on Lower Broadway in Nashville.

While he didn’t break any laws this time around or get arrested, it sure does look like there is a problem. It’s great to hear Wallen will be “working on me,” because we never want to see anyone down and out.

Everyone is allowed to go have fun, get drunk at times, go hit up a bar . . . but in 2020 there are new guidelines on how we are to go about it all. SNL has their protocol, and Morgan broke it.

Celebrity can be a crazy thing, and we hope Morgan is not just talking the talk but will also be walking the walk. He is so talented and we hope good things for him.
