With her new song “homecoming queen?” now available, Kelsea Ballerini is talking about the meaning of the song, and how we ALL are carrying/battling something.
The song is NOT about KB’s high school years, as she says, “I was never the homecoming queen, I was whatever the opposite of that was.”
It’s a song about people who seem to have it all together, they’ve figured it all out, and are leading this charmed life in a way.
But that’s only from the outside looking in.
KB continues, “The reality is that nobody does. We live in a world where we all feel like we have to be filtered, perfect and happy all the time. And it’s unrealistic. It leads to a lot of anxiety.”
It’s OK to not be OK.
Kelsea goes on to say, “I just wanted to honestly give myself the permission to be like, ‘You’re allowed to have a bad day, feel insecure, grow and push through that, and then have a good day.’ It was a song about giving myself permission to feel however I feel.”
The song, “homecoming queen?” will be on her next album, which KB hopes to have out next Spring, though the single is now available.
We repeat the sentiment . . . it’s OK to not be OK.
(And on the flip side, when bad things do happen, it’s also OK to be OK. Never let the opinions of other’s dictate your own truth. Your feelings are valid.)
