It’s Official: The Term ‘Selfie’ is Out

Let’s be real, it’s hard to keep up with constantly changing buzzwords. It feels like as soon as a word catches on and we start using it, it’s already on it’s way out and now we sound “super uncool.”

According to the Alan Turing Institute in London, who analyzed data trends from Urban Dictionary, there is strong evidence that two pop culture words/terms just aren’t “cool” anymore and are on their way out – “Selfie” and “On fleek.”

Jai’s actually quite happy to say peace out to “on fleek.” “I never used that term, and cringed every time I heard it. I’m not to proud to say that I’m still using ‘on point,’ instead,” says Jai.

Fletch says he doesn’t even know what “on fleek” is.

But the question remains: What are we going to use in place of “selfie?”

Slang terms that are still safe, for now: “turnt,” “stan,” “bye Felicia,” “yaaaaas,” “ship,” and the one that really needs to die a miserable death, “bae.”
