How Do You Get In?

First off, CONGRATS to Carly Pearce for becoming the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry.  Last night was a big night for her.  Getting asked to become a member and to be asked by the queen herself, Dolly Parton.  I’ve heard the question my whole radio career just about how does one become a member and why aren’t certain singers members.  I can’t really answer either one with a definitive that’s why but i will tell you just because you are a multi platinum selling country artist, doesn’t mean that’s your ticket.  Why?  From what I understand it’s a lot dependent on what you are able to commit and does the Opry think you would make a good ambassador for the family.  So with that said, Carly has performed them something like 86 times and she has said more than once she would love to see her face on the side of some of those Opryland buses that promote the Opry, just like Reba.  She started out singing at Dollywood so it was only fitting that Dolly made the invite, however she wasn’t there last night so it was all done via video but still to have Carly talk about how nervous she was before going on stage, that shows you the importance of becoming a member no matter the method used.  I don’t know Carly’s commitment to the Opry but I know she will forever want to be mentioned as Grand Ole Opry member Carly Pearce and when she is officially inducted in August, she will be just that, and the latest member of the world famous Grand Ole Opry and making Kentucky proud.
