Home Manicures and What Your Color Choice Says About You

The human psyche is a fascinating thing, and even certain choices (no matter how minimal they may seem) can give us a look into our own, and others, personalities.

With salons closed, so many of us are opting for our own at-home manicures, and the color you choose may reveal a lot about your personality.

What to know more about someone’s personality (or your own) take a look at the psychological profiles of nail color choice and let the fingers do all the talking.

Pay attention to the color of people’s nails, and you may know what you’re getting yourself into:

RED – The ultimate statement of glamour that resonates fire, passion, and straight up confidence. This color exudes confidence and tends to attract born leaders who have a mission in life.

ORANGE – It takes a confident person with cutting edge style to really pull of the tropical shade, but also shows the person behind the nail may be bubbly, creative and a big fan of summer.

YELLOW – A color often teamed up with feeling of sunshine and warmth, the color can mean the same thing about the spontaneous and extroverted wearer of the color. This person is unique and cares about others.

PURPLE – This is a color that can have two meanings depending on the shade . . . The lighter varieties, like lavender or lilac, showcase someone with grace and femininity without being super girly-girly. This person is calm and collected and likes to rock their more feminine side.  As for the darker side of purples, this choice shows more of a complex personality of someone who is confident in their individualism and artist side while not being afraid to stand out.

PINK – A pale pink can showcase a personality of someone who wants to appear (or perhaps actually is) well groomed and sophisticated without being overbearing, and a hot pink will showcase someone who is playful and bold, but any shade of a pink polish will showcase someone who is a romantic with a motivation for friendships. Pink is the epitome color for ultra-feminine.

BLACK – A personal favorite of Jai’s (seriously, she’s been rocking black nails since childhood), the darkest of colors may reflect a “don’t mess with me” trendsetter vibe, or give off a feel of someone who doesn’t care what anyone else is doing, they will do what works for them. Black nails don’t mean depression nor a goth style, but a subtle way to rebel against social norms in what might be a safe way to showcase there is a darker side to the wearer’s personality.

BLUE – Blue may mean tranquility in other aspects, but not when it comes to nails! Blue polish shows off a fun an experimental personality of someone who likes to live life to the fullest and enjoys excitement. Blue nail polish wearers have a youthful personality and are open to trying new things. (Fun Fact: Jai didn’t even realize this until her husband pointed it out, but she tends to swap out the black nail polish for blue nail polish when going on vacation.)

FRENCH MANICURE – These ladies put a lot of work into looking like they have naturally perfect nails. They have their tips enhanced by white polish and the rest covered in light pink or beige, completing the illusion with a coat of clear lacquer. These gals hope they come off like the girl next door — only better.

NO POLISH, NUDE, or CLEAR – It takes a self-sufficient woman to go bare. But her confidence can lure her into taking on too much.

Jai actually knows guys that paint their nails, so we’re curious how this translates across all sexes.
