Feel Good Story: Young Woman Helps to Encourage Others Like Her with Barbie Dolls with Prosthetic Legs

Wanting to share her story and encourage others, 18 year old Chloe Newman went above and beyond to reach young girls like her.

Chloe, from Mechanicville, NY, was born with a missing limb and has received prosthetic services from Shriners Hospitals for Children her entire life.

When she learned Mattel had a line of Barbie dolls with prosthetic legs, Chloe wanted to collect as many as she could to donate to other girls who had prosthetic limbs.

Chloe’s hope is that when young girls see that even an icon like Barbie can have a prosthetic, then they might feel better about their own and gain more confidence in themselves.

She shares, “I think they would feel better about themselves. That they would see how they are making a Barbie like me so why should I be ashamed of myself if there’s now a toy like me.

Chloe and her mom’s efforts to garner donations for the Barbie Fashionistas #121 dolls went viral on social media, and even caught the attention of Mattel and donations from around the world started coming in.

Not only are prosthetic patients in Chloe’s community getting these dolls, but others around the country will be receiving them as well.

Chloe and her beautiful heart is another fine example in how sharing our stories and reaching out to help and encourage others is truly an inspirational effort that should never go unnoticed.
