Zechariah Carledge may only be 10 years old, but he is on a fierce mission to support police officers and fallen heroes one mile and $1 at a time.
The Florida native dedicates each and every mile he runs to a fallen police officer, whom he names and shares their story after saying a quick prayer for them.
Zechariah got the idea a couple years ago while participating in the Tunnels to Towers 5K alongside police officers and firefighters in full gear in Orlando.
The kind-hearted 10 year old shares: “I really just wanted to honor police officers because they do so much for us in the community and the hate that they’re getting is just really unacceptable because they do so much for us and when I hear an officer pass away it just breaks my heart.”
Zechariah has pledged to run at least 150 miles this year, carrying the Thin Blue Line flag during his run, to honor law enforcement officers who’ve passed away in 2018.
When 2019 kicked off, Zecharia encouraged people to “prayerfully consider” supporting his cause, with a goal to raise $100 for each fallen officer, hoping to total out at $15,000. As of earlier this week, Zechariah has raised over $20,000.
“I don’t know lots of people that can take a bullet for anyone they don’t know in the community and it’s just an amazing thing, so I really want to honor them,” the wise young man states.
