Feel Good Story: Young Group Help Authorities Locate Missing Elderly Woman

When an elderly woman went missing, a community jumped in to help authorities track her down, even the younger members of the community leaned in.

Glenneta Belford (97) had gone missing, and police were struggling to locate her, so they turned to Facebook to post a plea for assistance from neighbors in the area, focusing on the Quail Glen and Blue Oaks neighborhoods.

The amount of people who came out to help look for Glenneta was overwhelming, and very appreciated.

A group of kids even got in on the search.

“Kids can make a difference just as much as adults can,” said Makenna Rogers (10), who was in a group assisting with the search.

“I just want to help . . . I like helping, except if it’s with chores,” chimed in Logan Hultman (10).

Makenna, Logan, and three of their friends hopped on their bikes and started riding around, looking for Glenneta, but had to take a break after Logan fell off his bike.

He shares, “My medic brother helped me. He put some Bad-Aids on my wounds,” relayed Logan — who’s brother (13) is a Boy Scout and keeps a first-aid kit in his bedroom at home.

After the break, and a quick dinner, the young group hit the streets again to continue the search . . . and SPOTTED Glenneta!

Logan shared, “All of us saw this lady walking around and we were like, ‘Guys, that’s her. That has to be her.”

The young group called police and told dispatchers they’d found the woman and gave the location.

Of the scene, Makenna says, “People started surrounding and the cops came. We were the first ones that found her.”

Glenneta was found safe and reunited with her family, thanks to the “fantastic” group of friends, said the police.

Officer Rob Baquera, with the Roseville police department shared, “Our dispatchers were a little surprised to hear a 10 year old on the other line telling us they had found this missing person.”

Baquera continues, “We highly encourage this group of junior detectives to give us a call in about 10 years. Maybe we can give them a job. They’re doing a great job, so far.”

Logan is already jumping at that opportunity. He says, “It’s amazing. I had no idea what my future would be until now: a detective.”
