Feel Good Story: Woman Gives Ex Husband a Kidney

If only all exes could get along this beautifully . . .

Bill Henrichs and Mary Ziegler met in high school and were married for 21 years before they got divorced in the mid-90s.

Though their marriage didn’t make it, the two remained amicable for their kids.

Now in their 60s and grandparents, Bill had a favor to ask of his ex wife. He’d been struggling with some health issues and was in need of a new kidney.

About 40 of Bill’s friends and family members had already been tested, but none were a match.

That’s when he asked his ex wife about it, and she knew she there was nothing to consider . . . the answer was an automatic, and obvious YES!

Mary shares, “[We] grew up together, and I knew that my children and grandchildren needed [him] in their lives.”

The surgery was a success, and both are doing very well.

Bill even jokes that all couples should try their best to get along after a divorce because, “you just might need a kidney” someday.
