Feel Good Story: Woman Collects Cards for Troops Over Seas Unable to Be Home for Holidays

While this time of year has a strong emphasis on friendships, family time and togetherness . . . there are some people that are unable to make it back home for the holidays.

There’s a woman in New Hampshire, Laura Landerman-Garber, who is taking note of the American troops during the holidays and started a family tradition . . . that has since become a massive non-profit organization.

17 years ago, over Thanksgiving dinner, Laura and her family wrote cars to soldiers who were serving over seas and unable to be home for the holidays . . . then, three years ago, Laura started asking everyone she came across to right cards as well.

Now, Laura has helped collect more than 100,000 holiday cards for members of ALL FIVE MILITARY BRANCHES all over the world to let our service men and women know they are appreciated.

The organization is called Holiday Cards for our Military.

Laura shares, “It’s easy to lose sight that there are plenty of people, especially the military, who are far away from home . . . [So,] I’m hoping that they know we’re thinking of them, we appreciate them and we really love them.”

The non-profit collected 17,000 cards in 2017 . . . 50,000 in 2018 . . . and this year went “over the 160,000 mark,” she shares.

Laura continues, “The real stars are the military men and women and the families that support them. That’s the greatest lesson I’ve learned.”

If you want to get involved, Laura is accepting cards through December 15th, and you can learn more on militaryholidaycardchallenge.com.
