Feel Good Story: Volunteers Paint Blind Veteran’s Home

William Velez (89) is a blind World War II veteran who lives in Tampa, FL with his wife, and they are feeling all the feels and gratitude after dozens of Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, along with their families, painted the couple’s home.

It’s all part of a volunteer effort called Paint Your Heart Out Tampa with a purpose to assist and serve the community.

Volunteer Ken Forward shared that William isn’t able to get around and maintain his home the way he’d like, sharing, “[William] told me he painted his home 17 years ago by himself; but now with his impairment, he can’t do it, so we’re here to help him.”

The fire rescue volunteers also installed some new smoke detectors in the couple’s home.  William and his wife could not have been more appreciative to the volunteers and their efforts.
