Feel Good Story: Volunteers Offer to Drive Hospital Staff to Work During Winter Weather

While we may not be experiencing Winter weather at this point in Winter, others sure are . . . and people are leaning in to help each other.

On Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, there are nearly 100 people stepping up to volunteer as drivers for hospital employees so they can get to work across the island through the snow.

Members of a Vancouver Island Toyota 4×4 enthusiasts group have found it easy to drive their cars through the winter weather and have been offering their driving services.

One driver, Shelby Newcombe, stated that “[Staff at Victoria General Hospital have] patched me up a hundred times. They also delivered my little boy here, and I was also born here, so it is nice to give back to them.”

There’s a Facebook Group where more than 1,400 members coordinate rides for medical staff need rides to and from work . . . all of whom expect nothing in return.

The group also has a goal to ensure patients are at island hospitals are well taken care of when they need rides to and from the medical centers.
