Feel Good Story: Veteran Surprised with New Home

A Marine who thought he was speaking at a conference about hardships veterans face when it comes to home ownership was left speechless.

Kevin Palacios, a veteran who’d earned a Purple heart, was injured on two separate occasions by IED explosions while in Afghanistan.

He’d shared, “I did two tours in Afghanistan, injured both times out there, came back, but when I got out of the military . . . they really didn’t give us much time to teach us how to come back to this world.”

Kevin was ready to share his story of being a single father living back at home with his parents in New York with a group of Long Island realtors, but the group of realtors had other plans . . .

They presented Kevin with his OWN HOME — a brand new fully furnished three-bedroom house!

The whole thing, including the mortgage, was paid for by local companies, volunteers, and The Fairway Foundation (a non-profit dedicated to advocating and helping veterans in need).

About the big hearted act of kindness, Kevin says, “I have no words to be honest. I’m shocked. I’ve always dreamed, I like dreamed for this . . . I don’t even know how I’m standing.” He continues, “I have a home. I have my safe zone and I get to see my son grow up.”
