Uber drivers give countless rides to many people, but every so often there is a memorable passenger a driver may never forget.
Latonya Young (43) is a single mother from Atlanta, Georgia who has been driving for Uber while studying criminal justice at Georgia State University.
Unfortunately, Latonya was recently banned from attending classes due to an outstanding $700 balance on her account.
“Every time I got ready to pay the money, my kids needed something . . . [so] I said, ‘Okay, I’ll just wait,'” she shares.
While being an active mother in her kids’ lives, Latonya is also a hair stylist during the day, and does her Uber driving during the nights . . . and was still finding time to further her education as a student until the financial setback.
One night, while driving a passenger to a soccer game, the conversation of education came up and Latonya’s financial struggles with the university were revealed.
Days later, Latonya received a call from Georgia State university with the message that was was eligible to re-enroll in more classes . . . thanks to Kevin Esch, her Uber passenger that decided to call the university’s Bursar’s office and paid off the remaining balance.
Latonya shares, “I was literally blown away. A stranger has never done that [nor] done anything like that for me.” She continues, “When he paide the balance, I had to do this for him. I maintained my grades, A’s & B’s, just trying to do everything to make sure he knows I appreciate him.”
Now check this out . . . when Latonya graduated with her Associate’s Degree a few weeks ago . . . Kevin was in the audience to cheer her on — and is still inspiring her as she prepares to continue studying for her Bachelor’s Degree!
