Feel Good Story: Third Graders Hold Toy Drive After Classmate Loses Everything in House Fire

When a family lost everything in a house fire a few weeks ago, one elementary school student was surprised by his classmates in the most kind-hearted way.

Daniel Hunt, a third grader at Philadelphia Elementary School, had lost all of his toys in the fire, so a teacher came up with the idea of having a toy drive for him.

The toy drive was an idea the rest of the students were more than thrilled to support.

Students snuck toys into class, trying to keep the secret until the big surprise was ready to be revealed. Everything from board games, a football, even some Pokemon items were brought in to gift to Daniel.

According to the school’s counselor, Kelly Jones, “The kids could not wait to do this for Daniel. It was amazing to witness the excitement these third grade kids had while sneaking in toys.

It didn’t stop at the toys either. Kelly continues, “The entire week, [the students] couldn’t love on [Daniel] enough. People were holding doors for him, getting his pencil ready for him each morning, taking his chair down from the desk for him to sit in, and swarming him at recess. They kept the best secret!”

When the day came to reveal the surprise for Daniel, his classmates could barely contain themselves.

Then it happened. They shouted “SURPRISE!” and Daniel was left speechless.

Daniel wanted to hug each and every classmate to show his gratitude.

“Every adult and even a few students had tears swelling up in their eyes who were in the room to witness this,” the school counselor, Kelly Jones, said. “I feel extremely blessed to have witnessed the pure love and giving from the hearts of the third-grade students at my school.”
