Feel Good Story: Teens Deemed Local Heroes

Teens tend to travel in packs, and sometimes can make people uneasy when one’s unsure if they’re out and about with intent to cause trouble or not, but it really is true that we should “never judge a book by it’s cover.”

Erika Tovar had been driving down the road when she noticed an elderly gentleman using a walker, and struggling a bit, on the sidewalk. Erika slowed down a little bit and kept an eye on him in her rear view mirror, but then she saw the older man fall.

Erika quickly made a U-turn with the intent to go help the man, but some teens had already beat her to it.

Victor Ornelas, Isaac Hernandez, Diego Ramirez, Devan Ornelas, and Josh Sorg were on their way to play basketball, but when they saw the man fall, they slammed on the breaks, put the car in park and hopped out quickly to go help him.

The teens not only helped the man, named Jose Gomez, back to his feet, but walked with him all the way to his home to help him clean up his injuries.

Jose’s knees were pretty banged up and bleeding, but thanks to the teens, he was loved on and cared for.

Erika was able to capture photos of the whole thing and posted them to Facebook. The story was shared so many times that the community was able to identify who the teens were, and people have been sending them gifts as a thank you for being kind-hearted, decent human beings.

Here’s the thing though, those teens didn’t just leave Jose and move on with their lives. They now go out of their way to check in on Jose, chat with him for awhile and even regularly asking how is day was.

Jose shared with their local news, “I was just falling down I don’t know what happened. They picked me up. I was walking just right and then sadly I went down, and they come up and say hey, want us to take you home and I said okay, let’s go. It made me feel good.”

He continued, “They remind me of myself when I was younger.”
