Feel Good Story: Teacher Babysat to Help Former Student Get a Job

We all have/had that one favorite teacher who really stood out above the rest.  Turns out, your favorite teacher may remember you, too.

A teacher in Chicago names LaShonda Carter was scrolling through Facebook one night when she couldn’t sleep, and ended up chatting online with a former student named Larresha Plummer, now 18 years old.

Larresha had a baby last month and was chatting with LaShonda about wanting to go to a job fair the next morning, but didn’t have a car nor a babysitter.  The only available option for Larresha was to take the bus to the job fair with her newborn in tow.

LaShonda wanted to help her former student, so she rearranged her whole day so she could drive them to the job fair, then sat in the car with the baby while Larresha went looking for a job.

LaShonda did a Facebook Live post while in the car and talking about how it “takes a village,” calling on others to reach out within their community.
