Mr. Wallace Peoples is a 62 year old crossing guard for Sherwood Forest Elementary School, and truly loves the kids he helps safely cross the street each day.
“They are my kids. I take [my job] very seriously, safety,” says Mr. Peoples.
One student’s mom shares, “He’s looking out for everyone. The kids, the parents. He doesn’t miss a beat.”
Echoing, a student, Isabel Assouline, tells, “He’s just extraordinary. He helps all of us and keeps us safe, and we all love him.”
Well, last month, Mr. Peoples’ car broke down and he couldn’t get to work. Making things more difficult, he was dealing with some health problems, even spending Christmas Eve in the hospital.
Mr. Peoples absence was noticed! After hearing what had happened, one mom posted to Facebook in hopes of getting the beloved crossing guard some help.
It worked! Within 2 hours, $800 had been raised and someone donated a vehicle.
When Mr. Peoples showed up at Sherwood Forest Elementary School in a borrowed ride, he thought he was about to work out a deal to buy an old beater vehicle.
But that wasn’t the case at all. Mr. Peoples was greeted by those that love and cherish him, with students and parents holding signs and cheering him on.
That’s when Mr. Peoples was presented with the heart-felt gift of a donated SUV and a check for $2,500.
A teary-eyed Mr. Peoples shares, “Now I know they care. It’s good to know that people care.”
