For the past two years, sisters Alex (9) and Caroline Fischer (6) have been raising funds to buy Thanksgiving meals and turkeys for families in need in their home state of North Carolina . . . and this year is no different.
Their mom, Lisa Fischer, shared with CNN, “We started this as a service project in 2017 for the family to do in the holidays . . . When I initially suggested we donated one box of food, Alex said that wasn’t enough and that we should do 10 boxes.”
When Lisa pointed out to her daughters just how much a Thanksgiving meal costs and that their family simply wouldn’t be able to afford to pay for ten full meals, the girls took matters into their own hands — with a lemonade and baked goods stand.
They were determined to get those ten boxes of food, reaching out to friends, family and even strangers for help with a GoFundMe campaign.
When their first year turned out to be a success — passing their goal of 10 boxes of food with 100 boxes — the young sisters knew it had to become a tradition.
Thanksgiving 2018 garnered 130 boxes of food and 50 turkeys!
How are their efforts going this year? Expectations have far been surpassed!
The current tally for their 2019 Thanksgiving mission has brought in (as of late last week) almost $3,000, which will allow them to gift 108 boxes of Thanksgiving meals and 108 Turkeys to North Carolina community families in need.
Thanksgiving is about showing gratitude for our blessings, and what better way to do so than to support families in need.
