Feel Good Story: Retired Doctor Saves a Life

Dr. Bill Benge may be a retired doctor, but Dad is a job duty he’ll always show up for.

Recently, Bill’s daughter Alina Benge, a server at a Winnetka, Illinois restaurant, needed a last minute busboy to fill in when they became short staffed on one of their busiest days of the year . . . St. Patrick’s Day.

Alina asked her dad to fill in, and the recently retired Harvard-trained cardiologist was happy to help, and it’s a good thing he did.

Only five minutes after Bill clocked in, a customer started choking!

The retired doctor stepped in without hesitation, performed the Heimlich maneuver, and saved a life!

Not only is this a situation of “right place, right time,” but Bill is hoping his story inspires others to learn the Heimlich maneuver.
