When one elementary school principal learned a student would often spend recess sitting by herself, her leaned in and got other students involved, too!
Lucy Taylor has cerebral palsy, which has made it difficult for her to make friends, so she spends most of her time at Barth Elementary School by herself.
Daun Elizabeth Taylor, Lucy’s mom, hit up Facebook to share some of her daughter’s struggles to make friends, and Principal Jeremy Thompson saw that post.
So, the very next day at school, Principal Thompson joined Lucy during recess and sat with her, and the second grader was filled with happiness.
Daun hit up Facebook again to share another update about Lucy, sharing, “She didn’t play alone at recess yesterday. [Lucy’s] principal Mr. Thompson stopped in and spent some time with her… He made Lucy’s day… and helped her mom and dad’s hearts.”
Not only did Principal Thompson sit with Lucy that day, but he took steps to make sure she never felt alone during recess again by rallying some other students around her.
They named the group the “Bubble Club”.
Since the story went viral, the Principal, Lucy, and the Bubble Club had become role models for other school staffers to ensure there are no lonely students.
