Feel Good Story: Premature Baby Grows Up to Work at Hospital that Saved Her Life

We sure do love a story that comes full circle . . .

Tammy Lewis is a 34 year old nurse in Texas, who now works in the same hospital that saved her life over three decades ago.

When Tammy was born, she was three and a half months premature and had a birth weight of only 1 pound 4 ounces. For some time, she even held the title of “Smallest Baby in Texas,” and was the smallest newborn to survive such a premature birth, thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses on hand.

Not only does Tammy now work as a nurse and respiratory therapist in the neonatal intensive care unit, helping to save other premature babies that wouldn’t make it on their own.

Another beautiful thing about this story is that some of the hospital staff that helped Tammy when she was born were still working at the hospital all these years later, so Tammy got to work WITH the doctors and nurses who saved her life.

She hopes her story will give her patients’ parents a little more hope as they stay strong for their preemie babies.
