Earlier this week, sheriff’s deputies in Lancaster received a call about a traffic hazard, but when they got to the scene, they realized there was much more to the situation.
Callers reported a wheelchair in the middle of the road, but when responding officers, Sherrif’s Deputies Chapman and Montanez, got there, they found an elderly woman in the wheelchair on the side of the road.
Turns out, her motorized wheelchair had run out of power, leaving her stranded.
While the officers did offer the woman a ride home, her wheelchair wouldn’t fit in the squad car, and she was not about to leave it behind, because it’s her only means of mobility.
So, Deputy Montanez got out of the squad car and started his 1 mile walk, pushing the woman in her battery-dead wheelchair, while his partner followed behind in the patrol car.
Deputy Chapman, of course, had to rib his partner a bit, teasing, “You can pick it up, you’re only going about one mile an hour.”
The Lancaster Sheriffs Station shared the video on their Facebook Page.
