Feel Good Story: Officer Helps 6 Year Old Afraid of Monsters in New Home

When a 6 year old was afraid of the monsters that may or may not be residing in his new home, a kind-hearted police officer took the time to assure him that he and his family are the only occupants.

Prior to moving into the new home, 6 year old Hayden Williams shared a room with his 15 year old sibling. Now on his own, his active imagination was getting the best of him . . . and he was refusing to sleep alone.

His mom, Amanda, tried everything she could think of to calm Hayden’s anxieties, but nothing seemed to work.

“I’ve tried everything under the sun to get him to sleep in his own room,” Amanda shared on Facebook, adding, “Nothing is helping. He says he … can’t stop the scary thoughts that are creeping into it. He begged me to call the police and a doctor to help him. Seriously breaks my mama heart.”

As a last resort, Amanda thought to bring her young son to their local police station in the hopes that someone might have a couple minutes to spare to ease Hayden’s fears.

Insert Officer Bruce Schwartz!

Officer Schwartz immediately befriended Hayden and listened to his story about being afraid of the monsters; and shared that he too has scary thoughts sometimes before bed, but thinking about happy things helps them go away. Then, visited the family’s home to do a full search of all the scary places to ensure there weren’t any monsters creeping about.

Turns out, the house call from Officer Schwartz was just what Hayden needed, and he slept alone for the first time in his new home.

The next morning, Officer Schwartz dropped by again to check in on how Hayden was doing.
