After being laid off from his job as a forklift operator, Patrick Hoagland (30) spent weeks applying for jobs around town, but wasn’t having any luck landing a gig to support his family.
So, Patrick decided to take a different approach.
He headed to a street corner in his Phoenix, Arizona neighborhood with 200 copies of his resumé in tow, and a sign that read “Please take a resumé. Laid off. Looking for a job.”
Patrick had been at the intersection looking for work for three days before Melissa DiGianfilippo happened along and read his sign.
Melissa was on her way back to work at a PR & marketing agency from lunch when she stopped and took a resumé.
Though Patrick didn’t have any of the right skills for her to offer him a job, Melissa shared his photo and resumé on social media, hoping it would help.

Help. It. Did.
The post went viral and Patrick received hundreds of job offers!
He took ended up landing on a job at a concrete grinding company and shares he wouldn’t have been able to do this without Melissa’s kindness and help, “She has been so great, she didn’t need to help me, but she did and it has changed my life . . . I’m so grateful for her.”
