It’s truly astounding what people will find at thrift shops or garage and estate sales . . . and sometimes one may not know the incredible item they got until after they already get back home.
Recently, a guy in Austin, Texas named Jim McKay bought a used VCR while shopping at a Goodwill store with plans to use it for a film project.
When he got home, he realized there was still a VHS tape stuck in it. Turns out, it was a tape from 1994 that belonged to the previous owner of the VCR.
On the tape . . . it was a father teaching his son to take his very first steps.
The entire video only lasted about 18 minutes, but Jim knew it was an important memory a family may want to have back.
So, Jim contacted a news station in the area to help track down the family who previously owned the VCR.
The station aired the found footage from the tape and the family saw it!
The little tot taking his first steps was 10 month old TyRe Alexander . . . who is now 26.
His mom saw the report on the news about someone buying a used VCR and finding an old tape inside and knew that video was her little boy. She called TyRe and told him, “Do you know you’re on TV right now?”
TyRe was stoked to see the video, as he didn’t even know it existed, and expressed immense gratitude to Jim for going out of his way to track his family down.
Here’s a photo of TyRe and Jim . . .
Reunited!
