You know the saying, “you can’t take it with you,” about money and material things not really being what matters when our time on Earth is over? Well, this is a great example of putting money to good use once passed.
Dale Schroeder, a 67 year carpentry veteran from Iowa, never made much money, but did a wonderful job living a frugal life-style and saving every little bit he could.
His friends would joke that Dale was so frugal he only had two pairs of jeans — work jeans and church jeans.
Prior to his death, though, Dale told a friend (who was always a lawyer) what he wanted to do something good with his money.
Dale’s lawyer buddy asked how much he had saved, and he wasn’t quite ready for the answer . . . Almost $3 Million!!
Something Dale always wished he’d done was go to college, but he couldn’t afford it when he was younger.
So, the idea came to fruition of using the money to set up a scholarship fund for other kids who want to go to college but wouldn’t be able to otherwise afford it.
Dale had saved up so much money, that at the time of his death in 2005, the funds used were able to send 33 total strangers to college!
The recipients of Dale’s generous gift of a college education call themselves “Dale’s Kids” and ALL 33 of them just got together this past weekend to share their stories and celebrate the man who totally transformed their lives.
Dale’s lawyer friend also shared that the only thing his buddy wanted was for them to pay it forward, and help someone else with the own kindness and generosity.
