A Kenyan man’s community needed a new road, so he built one himself.
Nicholas Muchemi, a coffee and tea farmer in Kaganda, Kenya, started digging into the dirt hill by his home with one goal in mind — create a road he and his neighbors could use to make getting in and out of town more easily accessible.
Nicholas would work on his farm during the morning hours of the day, and build the road in the evening.
After a few long weeks, Nicholas had constructed a dirt road, running about a quarter mile up a steep hill in his Kaganda village community.
Kids in his neighborhood can now use the road to more easily get to school. Parents trying to get to the market can get there faster. Others use the road to get to the church in town, rather than having to go the roundabout way.
The local government took notice to what Nicholas did for his community and decided to repay him for his kindness by installing a new roof on his house and gave him a cow for his farm.
The local government also promised to gravel and maintain the road Nicholas worked so hard on for his neighbors.
