An overheard conversation sparked an idea for a five year old to help her fellow classmates.
Katelynn Hardee overhead a peer’s mother saying she was struggling to pay for an after-school program, and the kind-hearted 5 year old wanted to know what she could be doing to help her fellow students.
The kindergartner started fundraising efforts by setting up a hot cocoa & cookies stand . . . then decided the money should be used to pay off lunch debt for students in her San Diego County school district.
Katelynn shared with her local news source, “I don’t want people to be hungry.”
The compassion of the 5 year old was noticed and recognized by administrators at her Breese Hill Elementary school — and on the national level of concern over how some school districts handle the payments of public school meals.
