If you’ve ever experienced a fear of flying, you get where this woman is coming from.
An elderly woman (96) was flying by herself for the first time in 15 years on a Southwest Airlines flight from San Diego to Nashville, and was terrified.
The young man seated next to her could tell how nervous she was, so he offered to let her hold his hand.
Across the aisle, fellow passenger Megan Ashley captured the interaction between seatmates and shared the heart-warming story to Facebook.
Megan shared the woman asked the woman held the man’s hand and hugged his arm during takeoff and again at a time of turbulence.
He calmed the senior citizen by talking with her and explaining everything that was happening, simply offering her kindness and a sense of security. He helped her the entire flight.
The FB poster continued that the kind gentleman continued to assist his elderly seatmate off the plane, holding her bag and helping her into the wheelchair. When the woman became confused in baggage claim wondering where her daughter went, whom she’d become separated from, the man stayed with her until the duo was reunited.
“Hats off to you sir, for your kind heart and your compassion toward someone whom you’ve never met,” Megan had written in the caption.
Southwest Airlines caught wind of the story when it went viral and put out a statement reading, “Civility is important to us at Southwest Airlines, and we are thrilled our Customers put it into practice onboard each day. We have the best Customers in the world and are constantly amazed by how they treat out People and each other.”
