OK, this one is giving us ALL. THE. FEELS.
Louis Mapp is an 81 year old retiree who volunteers at a hospital in Mobile, AL. Every Tuesday, Mr. Mapp goes to the hospital to rock babies to sleep while new (or new again) parents get some rest, or if the nurses are just too busy. He mostly helps with preemies, and shares that his time volunteering is the highlight of his week.
Mr. Mapp has always been impressed with how well the hospital is run and how wonderful the nurses and doctors are, since he started volunteering.
Prior to retiring, Louis worked in banking and he and his wife are pretty well off. That’s they recently decided to make a donation to the hospital where Louis has been spending his time.
Louis and his wife donated ONE MILLION DOLLARS to the neonatal center! The reason behind was that they wanted to be able to continue making a difference long after they’ve both passed away. The only condition is that the NURSES get to make the decision on how the money can best be spent.
And here’s how they’ll be using it . . .
The nurses decided to use some of the money to go towards buying a few special beds for extremely premature babies that cost about $50K each. Until Mr. Mapp and his wife’s donation, they didn’t have enough to get them.
