A family in Sevier County has welcomed a hero and new family member into their home.
A stray dog named Oreo had found his way into the the Bentley family’s Seymour neighborhood and had only been there for a few days when he saved a life.
Sima Bentley explains how things could have easily taken a turn for the worse when a different stray dog was ready to attack her almost three year old granddaughter, Aurora.
The toddler was running across the yard to play over the weekend when another stray dog came out of the woods behind the house, ready to attack Aurora.
Oreo was nearby and saw what was happening, and got to the other stray before it could get to Aurora, likely saving her life.
The other stray ended up attacking Oreo instead, so the Bentleys came running to his aid.
The family rushed Oreo to Sevier Animal Care Center where he was bandaged up and ready to be put up for adoption since he was a stray.
They Bentleys wouldn’t have it, and adopted the furry hero themselves.
Sima shares, “At the time I was just on a mission to save the dog. I didn’t even realize what had happened and we weren’t really looking to adopt a dog.”
However, with something like this, Sima shares she just could not NOT adopt Oreo at that point.
She continues, “I always tell people that God shows up when you least expect it and for me, that was God putting an angel in our yard that day. I’m so grateful that we got to keep him.”
She also adds, “He’s going to be a very spoiled dog at this point. He’s going to go everywhere we go, he’s going to sleep in the house on a bed and whatever he wants, he’s going to get.”
We’re not crying, you are . . .
