A Missouri woman with a kind-heart and instincts to help those in need is being hailed a hero, and honored with the Sons of the American Revolution Medal of Heroism.
This past summer, Bobbi Malone was on her way home from work when she noticed smoke and flames coming from a condo building.
It was safe to assume the fire department had already been called, as so many residents were outside on their phones, but Bobbi still stopped the car to see if anyone needed help.
That’s when Bobbi noticed an elderly woman in the doorway, struggling to get out.
The elderly woman, 82 year old Sherry Dana, uses oxygen and was struggling with the tank, and Bobbi got her out.
Of the heroic act, Bobbi says, “There was no hesitation as to whether I need to do this or I was putting myself at risk . . . It was almost a matter of instinct. When I see someone in need, instinctively I want to help, whether it’s a small thing or driving by a fire and seeing someone struggling.”
She continues, “I feel like we all need to have that kind of compassion and understanding that no matter who we are in life, if someone is struggling and we are able to help at all, it is definitely something we should do.”
The medal ceremony to honor the kind hero happened over the weekend, and Dana attended, continuing to share her gratitude for Bobbi, stating, “She was God sent . . . God watched over me and he sent her to me. I don’t know if I would have gotten out of the door, out of the fire, with those oxygen tanks and all those people could have been killed. Her coming by and seeing me struggling to get out — God sent her.”
Even after the fire, Bobbi worked to raise funds that would help Dana get back on her feet after the fire.
