Feel Good Story: Good Samaritan Turns In Blue Bank Bag Full of Cash

What was quite possibly a great day, quickly turned sour for one Goodlettsville, Tennessee man, but thanks to an honest and good Samaritan, this story has a happy ending.

The Goodlettsville man had been saving money all summer to buy a new truck. He had just sold his old truck, then went to the bank to pull out $12,800 in cash to go buy a new truck.

As he was leaving the bank, he did something so many of us have done before . . . he placed the money bag on the roof of his car while adjusting his things, climbed into the driver’s seat and took off – – completely forgetting that bag full of money was still on the roof.

He’d made it all the way to Brentwood before coming to the realization of what he did, when he noticed the bag wasn’t on the passenger seat next to him.

The small blue bank bag of cash had landed on the side of the road on Hwy 31w, near Pole Hill Road, and sat there while hundreds of unsuspecting cars passed by.

One driver, a White House local, noticed the bag as he drove past, and decided to stop and grab it. He had no idea what the bag was, or what was inside, but curiosity got the best of him, and thank the Lord it did.

The White House man promptly took the bag to the police, who then put out a media alert for it, stating, “A citizen turned in a sum of cash that was found in our city. If you or anyone you know has lost money please contact us.”

Shortly after, Millersville Police noticed a man searching the area where the money was reportedly found and, putting two and two together, asked him the necessary questions to make sure he was the actual owner of the bag. After the Goodlettsville mad described the exact contents ($12,800 in cash), a safety deposit box key and the number on the key, the blue bank bag full of money was reunited with it’s owner.

The total time elapsed from losing the bag to getting it back was quite possibly the longest three hours of this man’s life.

“I didn’t expect to get it back,” he told the authorities.

Assistant Chief Dustin Carr shared, “We’re just extremely grateful that the right person found it.”
