Feel Good Story: Firefighter Saves Child’s Life, Mom Saves His

Becca Bundy is a mother of four who lives in northeast Minnesota. A couple years ago, her one year old daughter Hadley had a seizure.

The first responder to show up was Bill Cox (66), a volunteer firefighter, who was able to help Becca’s young child.

Just this past Fall, Becca ran into Bill at a fundraiser where he happened to be the bartender.

The two got to chatting when Becca noticed Bill’s shirt — it read, “My name is Bill. I’m in end stage kidney failure.”

Turns out, Bill was born with only one kidney and had been having issues for some time. He was in desperate need of a new kidney, or would be facing dialysis and likely to not live much longer.

Becca decided to get tested to see if she was a match for her daughter’s hero — SHE WAS — and the transplant happened earlier this year.

The surgery was a success!

Both families have come together as a close unit now because of it. Bill saved Becca’s daughter Hadley years ago, and now Becca was able to return the favor by saving Bill’s life.

Bill and his wife don’t have grandkids of their own, but now have become honorary grandparents to Becca’s kids. Their fridge is even covered with artwork from Becca’s kids, and all are planning a family vacation together this summer.
