There’s a doughnut shop in Seal Beach, California called Donut City that’s been around for almost 40 years.
The shop’s owners, John and Stella Chhan, came to the states as refugees from Cambodia and have been working at their beloved doughnut shop almost every morning since.
Recently, some of the shop’s regular customers noticed Stella hadn’t been around and started asking John if she was OK.
Turns out, Stella was not OK at all. John shared the news that his bride had an aneurysm.
John would show up to the store every morning to work, then rush to the rehab center to be with the love of his life each night.
Some of the Donut City regulars wanted help by starting a GoFundMe, John said no. Not wanted to stand by and do nothing, the regulars came up with another plan . . . to show up and buy out all of the shops inventory, each day.
The policy at Donut City has always been to stay open until the doughnuts all sell out. Because the customers are showing up and buying as much as possible in an attempt to help the shop close as early as possible, John has been able to get home earlier in the day to spend with Stella.

John shares, “[Stella] can talk, she can write. Right now she’s trying to start eat[ing].”
